4G Uncovered

The things you love, in an instant

Back in the day when all we wanted to do was call or text, we used the 2G network. Then came 3G, which was better for using the internet on your phone - this is what most phones currently use.

The way we use our mobiles is changing. We are watching more videos, playing more games. And streaming, tweeting and browsing more than ever before. 4G will help make a world where we'll be able to use our digital devices in new and exciting ways. We can't wait.

Need a hand understanding data? O2's tech experts will help you get your head around what it is and which activities use data.

What is data?

4G Speed will vary depending on location and number of people using the service. Potential speed claim based on Ofcom website info at:

Did you know?

4G is up to 5 times faster than 3G
Say you want to download a 10 minute video clip - doing this over 3G would take minutes, whereas on 4G it would only take seconds. Quite a difference, eh?*

The difference in upload speeds between 3G and 4G is incomparable – 4G is that much faster. It's so fast that TV broadcasters have been able to test uploading their video content using the trial 4G network rather than satellites.

Do you remember being told that your TV had to be digital for April 2012? O2's 4G network will be on the same frequency used by old analogue terrestrial TV that was switched off last year.

It passes through walls more easily than the other frequencies, which means O2 will be able to offer great indoor coverage.

4G is now available for Pay Monthly, Pay & Go and mobile broadband customers across the country – from Beaconsfield to Clyde.
