O2 Satellite is here and it could change the way millions of people in the UK stay connected.

For anyone who's lost signal when calling breakdown recovery or trying to find friends at a music festival, Satellite keeps you connected where traditional networks can't reach. Your phone switches automatically – no settings, no fuss.

But to use it, you'll need a compatible device. Here's the best phones for satellite signal available at O2.

What is satellite signal?

Satellite signal is exactly what it says on the tin. It works by using satellites to keep you connected.

Heading somewhere off the beaten track where phone signal is just a pipe dream? That's where Satellite steps in.

This technology has been around for decades – used by explorers, the army and even those in the middle of the ocean, but they needed a dedicated satellite phone.

Now, with O2 Satellite, that’s all changing and this connectivity is making its way into our pockets.

Satellite signal means having ‘no bars’ is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Think of it as your ace up the sleeve, quietly waiting in the background until it's time to shine.

How does a phone connect to satellite signal?

Satellite connectivity doesn’t rely on traditional phone masts, instead it connects your phone directly to satellites in space. This allows you to stay connected in remote areas, far beyond the reach of traditional phone signal.

There are no toggles or buttons to press when connecting to Satellite, your phone will automatically switch over when it detects you’re in an area with no coverage.

How to get satellite on your phone

Getting started with satellite connectivity is straightforward. Here's how:

Step 1: Check your phone is compatible first – if you're with us, you can find a device compatibility list on our O2 Satellite page. Not all handsets support satellite connectivity yet, so it's worth making sure yours is ready before getting started.

Step 2: Check with your network provider whether satellite is included in your current plan, or if it's available to add on. Availability and pricing will vary depending on your provider and plan.

Step 3: That's it. No app download, no settings to change. When you move out of regular coverage, your phone connects to Satellite automatically.
