We're taking the carbon out of O2
We want to build a greener network, setting an ambitious commitment to be the first UK mobile network to reach net zero. We’re committed to supporting the United Nations Global Compact Business Ambition of limiting global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees by reducing carbon emissions. We recognise the need to take urgent action, so are reviewing energy use across our business – to see where we need to make changes. Every office, every store, every mast. Item by item our goal is to remove non-renewable energy across our network and operation, to be a Net Zero Business by 2025.
But we can’t stop there. We believe we have a responsibility to look beyond our business & operation, to reducing carbon in our supply chain. After all, we buy in a lot of products and services that go into running our business and effectively delivering for our customers. We’ve identified with the Carbon Trust that about 90% of our total value chain emissions are found with our partners and vendors. That’s why we’ve also committed to reducing carbon emissions by at least 30% across our whole supply chain by 2025, as part of our wider Telefonica Group commitment.
From the smallest of everyday actions like the paper bags we introduced back in 2008, paperless bills, to O2 Recycle and at scale IOT (Internet of Things) connectivity, we’re on a journey to help everyone on O2 reduce their impact on the environment and help lay the foundations for a lower carbon UK.
