If you like, you can transfer your mobile number to someone else. It’s called transfer of ownership and you can do this by getting in touch with us.
To make sure that we’ll be able to transfer your number nice and quickly for you, here are a few things to be aware of before you get in touch:
The new owner of the mobile number must already have an O2 contract in their name, and be aged 18 or over.
If you have a device plan, this will need to be fully paid off before you can transfer your number. If you’re in contract but do not have a device plan, you’ll need to pay any termination fees. We’ll add these to your final bill.
You and the new owner of the number need to be present when you contact us. Not possible? Get in touch to discuss how we can help you.
You’ll still have to pay any costs until the number is transferred to the new owner.
If it’s not possible for the New Owner to be present to complete the Transfer of Ownership, they will have 7 days to activate the number onto their new account via My O2 or Online or by calling O2.
The current owner of the existing number must initiate the Transfer of Ownership request first.
Next steps to activate the Transfer of Ownership to a new O2 Account Owner using My O2 Online.
The new customer will sign into their new My O2 account - See how to register for My O2 here.
Go to the Your Account section.
Select Transfer Number.
The customer will need to select the option 'I want to take on an O2 Number being transferred to me'.
The current owner of the existing number must initiate the Transfer of Ownership request first, or the new customer will see the following response: 'We haven't had a request to transfer a number to you'.
Once the new account owner has then successfully selected the 'I want to take on an O2 Number being transferred to me' option, the transfer can take up to 24 hours.
Duplicate accounts
If you have an O2 account but you didn’t log in before buying something, you may end up with two, or duplicate, accounts.
If you’d like to manage your personal and business accounts, you’ll need to access them through their separate My O2 accounts. If you need help accessing My O2 then pop into an O2 store or get in touch.
