4G calling abroad

Help and support

Some mobile operators abroad have switched off their 2G and 3G networks. These networks are used when you make calls. So, to make calls where only 4G or 5G networks are available, you’ll need to use 4G Calling.

Before you do this, check the settings are correct on your device:

  • 4G Calling is switched on

  • WiFi Calling is switched off

It is important that you switch off WiFi Calling. This feature isn't available when you're abroad, and may stop you from making calls.

If your phone is newer than a Samsung Galaxy S20 or an iPhone 7, 4G Calling will automatically work. If your phone is older, you might be limited to just texts and data.
