Like other networks in the UK and abroad, we're switching off our 3G network so we can focus on our faster, more reliable and more energy-efficient 4G and 5G networks.
To make sure your device keeps working as it should, you’ll need to use 4G Calling and WiFi Calling. These let you make and receive calls over 4G or WiFi instead of 3G.
Most smartphones already have the right technology built in – it’s sometimes called VoLTE (Voice over 4G) and VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi). You might just need to turn it on.
In many cases, just updating your phone’s software and restarting your device will do the trick. If not, download and install the O2 My Network app and enable 4G Calling and WiFi Calling.
What do I need to do?
If your phone is eligible, you’ll receive a text from us asking you to download the My Network app. Just follow these quick steps to get 4G Calling and WiFi Calling set up on your device.
Update your phone’s software to the latest version
Restart your device (turn it off, then back on)
Download the My Network app – you can get it from Google Play
Open the app and follow the steps to activate 4G Calling and WiFi Calling
Check your device settings to make sure both 4G Calling (VoLTE) and WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) are switched on
Your device is 4G-capable but doesn’t currently have 4G Calling (VoLTE) or WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) switched on. The My Network app can help enable these features on compatible devices and SIMs.
If you’ve received a text from us, it means your phone is eligible. Follow the link in the message to download the app and complete the setup steps.

If, after trying these, you still don’t see the options, it could be that your device or software version doesn’t support these features on our network. Please get in touch so we can help you.
This can happen if your new SIM doesn’t have the right settings for 4G Calling (VoLTE) or WiFi Calling (VoWiFi). Please get in touch so we can replace or re-provision your SIM.
If you uninstall the My Network app or insert a different SIM, you’ll lose 4G Calling and WiFi Calling on that device because the configuration enabling those features may no longer be active. Please download and install the My Network app again.
Some phones are unable to use 4G Calling because of limits in their hardware or software. In these cases, the only way to get 4G Calling is to switch to a device that already supports it. Take a look at our range of phones.
We’re switching off our 3G network, which completes early in 2026. This means voice and data on older networks will no longer function reliably. Upgrading your device will maintain seamless calling and data service, both now and in the future.
Not every device is able to use WiFi Calling. The My Network app can switch on WiFi Calling for some phones but not all of them. If you can’t see the option on your device, it’ll be because it’s not compatible.
If you’d like to make calls over WiFi, which is a great option if your signal’s low, you may need to upgrade your device.
It depends on the network’s rules, whether your SIM is set up for their services and if your device is compatible. The best way to be sure is to check directly with the provider.
The My Network app only works for O2 customers. To get 4G Calling it’s best to check with the MVNO provider directly.
