What is NFC or Contactless Technology?

Whatever you call it - NFC (Near Field Technology), Contactless or Tap Technology - it'll change the way you use your phone forever. Already you can go into certain shops, tap on a reader and pay with an NFC credit card. Or tap and travel on the Underground with an Oyster card.

It's on your O2 Money Card. Get an O2 Money Card when you get O2 Wallet and, with a single tap, you can pay for your lunch. Or pick up a drink. Or buy lime scented shower stuff. Up to the value of £15 at high street places like Eat or Boots.

What does the future hold? 2012 is set to be the year of Contactless Technology as loads more phones come with it. O2 is making it happen. Forget being weighed down by small change. Soon you'll be using your phone as your wallet.

How it works (the techy bit)
NFC is a short-range wireless technology. It uses a magnetic field that creates enough voltage to power a tiny microchip on a reader you tap on. And that makes something happen. Like instant payment for your Subway sandwich.
