Eco rating
Eco rating is about empowering our customers. We want to share information about the social and environmental impact of the products we sell, to help customers make the right decisions.
We're the first network to do this in the UK. And we're doing it because our customers have told us that they want the whole story about the phones they choose. So as well as specifications on battery life, web-access and connectivity, they also want to know about carbon performance, how ethical our suppliers are, how free from complex chemicals the handsets are, and so on.
To meet these demands we've worked with independent sustainability experts Forum for the Future to develop a monitoring tool to assess our suppliers and their products against a range of sustainability criteria. Energy efficiency; substances used; packaging and the way the company operates in its local community are all taken into account. Eco rating also looks at how phones can help people lead a more sustainable life.
This tool has been around for a while, for internal purposes only. We're now making some of the data available to customers, via an easy-to-use labelling system. And we're working with manufacturers to help them improve their ratings in the future.
