iPhone 3G Activation

 

Once you've got your new iPhone 3G, you'll need to connect to the latest version of iTunes to activate it.

Before Activating

1. Check your voicemail

Before you activate your iPhone, make sure you listen to your current voicemails. If you're an existing O2 customer, activation will delete your existing voicemails. If you're transferring an existing number from another network operator, existing voicemails will not be transferred.

2. Transfer your contacts, music and photos

Before you activate, migrate your existing mobile contacts onto Outlook, Outlook Express on the PC, or Address Book or Entourage on the Mac.

To activate your iPhone 3G

  1. Insert your SIM card into your iPhone 3G. You'll need to use the SIM ejector tool, found inside your black user guide in the box. If you've bought or upgraded to a new Pay & Go iPhone, you'll need to use the new SIM card that came with it to get the 12 months unlimited internet browsing and Wi-Fi.
  2. Upgrading iPhone customers will still need to use the new SIM card that comes with the new iPhone, This will give you the 12 months unlimited internet browsing and Wi-Fi.
  3. Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

If you're new to O2 and transferring your existing number, contact us with your PAC code if you've not done so already.

Using iPhone with an O2 Pay & Go SIM card

Your iPhone is automatically set to Pay Monthly, so once you've activated the iPhone you'll need to change the settings to Pay & Go to get the things like mobile internet to work. Here's how:

  • Go to settings menu, choose General
  • Choose Network, then Cellular Data Network
  • In the cellular data APN box, change idata.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk - you don't need to change the username and password.
  • Then, in the MMS APN box, change idata.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk - you don't need to change the username and password.
  • Visual voicemail isn't available for Pay & Go customers. You don't need to update the APN in this box.
  • When finished, switch your iPhone off and back on again
  • Finally top-up by a minimum of £10 if you've not topped up already.

If you're already with O2 Pay & Go, you can easily transfer your existing number and balance to your new iPhone SIM by completing this form.
