You can store up to 40 messages or minutes of messages in your mailbox. Each stored message can be up to four minutes long, and if you reach your storage limit we'll let you know.
Messages can be stored for up to 30 days if you're a Pay Monthly customer and up to 17 days if you're a Pay & Go customer. We'll let you know before your stored messages are deleted.
- New message notification

There are three ways we can let you know when you receive a new message:
- we can send you a text message
- we can call you
- we can display the on-screen Voicemail 901 sysmbol (
) on your phone
It's up to you to choose the notification you prefer. And you change it any time by dialling 901, pressing * for greetings and a mailbox settings, followed by 4 and following the prompts.
- Return calls

You can call back the person who's left you a message without exiting Voicemail 901. Just press 5 during or after their message and we'll put you through (calls are charged at your standard rate).
Your number won't be displayed if you've chosen to withhold it. And if you didn't get the chance to do so, you'll be given the option to before we connect the call.
- Set up a PIN for added security

Having a PIN means that you're the only person who can access your messages. You'll be asked to set up your PIN the first time you access Voicemail 901 or whenever it's been reset to the default.
You can change your PIN at any time by:
- Dialling 901
- Pressing * for greetings and mailbox settings and then 4
- Following the prompts
Your PIN also allows you to access your messages from any touchtone phone by:
- Calling your O2 mobile number
- Interrupting your greeting by pressing *
- Entering your PIN
- Record a temporary greeting

If you're away on holiday and can't get to your messages for a while, you can let people know by recording a temporary greeting.
here's how:
- Dial 901
- Press * for greetings and mailbox settings and then 3
- Follow the prompts
When you get back to the UK and call Voicemail 901, we'll remind you that you've got a temporary greeting and ask if you want to go back to your normal one.
- Find out when your messages were received

You can set Voicemail 901 up to tell you the time and date your messages were received by:
- Dialling 901
- Pressing * for greetings and mailbox settings, then 4
- Following the prompts
If you don't want to set this up for every message, you can still find out the time, date and the caller's number by pressing 8 during or after the message.

- Forward and reply to your messages

You can forward messages or reply directly to your caller's mailbox by pressing 7 during or after you've listened to them. You'll be asked to attach a note so the person you're sending the message to knows who it's from.
You can forward messages to more than one person at a time by setting up a distribution list. You can have up to nine distribution lists with up to 20 numbers in each.
To create a distribution list:
- Dial 901
- Key* and then 6
- Follow the prompts
Messages can be sent to any O2 customer and you'll be charged your standard rate.
- Record and forward your own messages using Voicemail 901

You can record a message yourself and send it to another O2 customer or distribution list by:
- Dialling 901
- Pressing * then 5
- Following the prompts
- Text templates

If you don't have time to talk, respond to your Voicemail 901 messages by text. Just press 9 after listening to a message and choose from one of nine set texts to send. You're only charged for the time you spend in 901 at your standard rate.
