Making crowds safer
O2 Motion provides real-time location insights based on phone users’ movements, providing anonymised and aggregated data to accurately reflect the movement of people anywhere in the country.
After a successful implementation during the Queen’s funeral in 2022, DfT used O2 Motion to track crowd sizes and movements for the King’s Coronation in near real-time, using the data to brief operations teams and allocate resources effectively.

The system provided a near real-time reassurance when all was going well – and could offer timely alerts and warnings if the situation required. All ceremonial and other celebratory events over the weekend passed off with no major disruption.
