About the Sophos security service

The Sophos security service is a suite of eleven products which help protect your business from cyber attacks and secure your company data. All products are configured, deployed and managed from one cloud based administration portal called Sophos Central Admin. The products are:

For mobile

  • Sophos Mobile Advanced – an all-in-one solution for managing and securing mobile devices.

For PCs and laptops 

  • Sophos Endpoint Advanced – protects your PCs and laptops from cyber threats, prevents data loss and enforces web security and control.
  • Sophos Endpoint Intercept X – protect your PCs and laptops from Ransomware and advanced threats, malware clean up. 
  • Sophos Intercept X Advanced – a combination of Sophos Endpoint Advanced and Sophos Endpoint Intercept X.
  • Sophos Intercept X Advanced with EDR – integrates intelligent Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) with top-rated endpoint protection.
  • Sophos Device Encryption – protect your data in case computers are lost or stolen, by centrally managing full disk encryption.

For email

  • Sophos Email Advanced – stop spam, malware, phishing and data loss while also providing an emergency email inbox in case your primary email service fails.
  • Sophos PhishThreat – train your users to spot phishing emails with simulated phishing campaigns.

For servers

  • Sophos Server Protection – protect your virtual and physical servers from Cyber threats.
  • Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server – protect your virtual and physical servers from Ransomware and advanced threats, malware clean up.

Setting up the Sophos security service

How do I set up my Sophos security products?

When your account was activated you would have received an email from Sophos with your user name and then set up your password. Log into Sophos Central Admin with those details to set up your products.

Where can I find system requirements for Sophos products?

Take a look at the index of system requirements for all Sophos products.

How do I add users?
  • Log into your Sophos Central Admin portal.
  • Select “People” in the left hand menu. Users can be added manually, imported via a CSV file or you can set up an Active Directory Synch.
How do I add devices?
  • Log into your Sophos Central Admin portal.
  • Select “Devices” in the left hand menu. Devices can be added manually or imported. Devices can also be put into “Device Groups” to be managed.
How do I set up policies?
  • Log into your Sophos Central Admin portal.
  • Select the product from the left hand menu, for example “Endpoint Protection”.
  • Select “Policies” from the left hand menu.
  • Here you can view and edit the default base policy as well create your own. For Sophos Mobile Advanced there is a six step Policy Wizard.
How do I deploy the software to my users?

There are various options; via email link, installer link or third party deployment tools such as Microsoft SCCM. Find out more.

Using the Sophos security service

Can I use Sophos Endpoint Advanced with other security products?

No, Sophos Endpoint Advanced will uninstall any other endpoint existing security products. Intercept-X however can run alongside other security products to provide added protection from advanced threats and Ransomware.

What do I do if Sophos tells me a threat has been detected?
  • When a threat has been detected Sophos will send you an alert. For information about a threat and advice on how to deal with it, click its name in the alert.

Is there a clean up tool?

Intercept X includes Sophos Clean, a tool that uniquely examines the whole system, removing malware and its traces, such as other files and registry keys. Find out more.

Do I need an internet connection to use Sophos?

An internet connection is needed to access the Sophos Central Admin console and also for the Sophos product to receive updates and the latest threat data.

Can I use Sophos Email Advanced with my Office 365 account?

Sophos Email Advanced can be used with any business email. It seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Office 365, Google G Suite, on-premises Exchange 2003+, and many more email providers.

What happens if I forget my administrator password?

Go to https://id.sophos.com/web/forgot_password/, enter the email address associated with your Sophos ID account, then check your email for a link to reset your password.

How do I keep my Sophos product up to date?

The Sophos client updates automatically via the internet, you don't have to update it yourself.
