BT had no margin for error in delivering mobile communications for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012. O2 needed to deliver a seamless mobile service in old and new buildings and support huge peaks in demand for prolonged periods. All this would be subject to exceptional scrutiny for cost-effectiveness, with considerable restrictions caused by limited access to some existing venues at critical times.
Mobile network capacity was delivered by a dedicated programme management office, with a clear structure across six major work streams. The largest single femtocell site in the world at the Athletes' Village, using O2 Boostbox. A dedicated, 32-person strong helpdesk and 18 field engineers.
"We're very proud of what we delivered for London 2012. On mobile, O2 proved to be the right choice for us as they took the ball and ran with it. We knew that we could rely on O2's experience and expertise for our mobile requirements." Howard Dickel, 2012 Client Partner at BT.
