A genuinely sustainable business needs to consider the impact of its products and services at all stages of their lifecycle.
Here are just some of the ways we're doing this:
Eco rating
In response to popular demand, we're giving our customers information on how sustainable the phones we sell are. They want the complete picture, so they can make a more informed decision on what phone they buy.
O2 Recycle
Our online handset recycling scheme. As well as paying customers a market-leading rate for their unwanted handsets, we make a donation to Think Big youth projects for every usable handset we receive.
Simplicity
Customers can enjoy the benefits of O2, while extending the life of their current handset.
Universal charger
O2 agreed with our customers who thought it would be great if the same charger could be used with different handsets.
That's why we launched the O2 universal charger in late 2008. It's energy efficient and compatible with over 96% of our product range.
Paperless billing
With so many customers receiving paper bills, we realised that we were consuming over 139 million sheets of paper every year.
Cutting that figure makes business sense. And assuming customers don't print off at home, together we can help save an awful lot of paper, too. So we're phasing out paper bills to our Pay Monthly customers.
Between 2008 and the end of 2009, 3.5 million customers were receiving paperless bills, a rise of 48%. We're now extending this programme to our business customers.
