  1. Check for GPRS, EDGE or 3G access which you should see in upper case at the top of your screen. Alternatively, look for the letters G, F, 3G or H.
  2. Connect to the internet. Open the browser on your mobile and visit www.google.com. This will make sure your data connection is set up correctly.
  3. Check your email provider supports POP3 or IMAP by visiting their website. Some providers, like Hotmail and Yahoo, may require an upgraded subscription.
  4. Your provider may also offer you mobile optimised sites that can be used from Internet Explorer on your phones browser, such as:
  5. For Hotmail, go to Start>Programs>Windows Live, and sign in. On the next screen, select the link that takes to you the T&Cs. Accept these. Next, enter your Windows Live Mail or Hotmail address and password. Select the 'save password' checkbox and go to the next page. Finally, select Sync email and your messages will be downloaded to your phone.
  6. For other email accounts, go to Start>Messaging> New Email Account and type in your email address. For phones that work with WM6.1, this is shown as Start> Messaging>Setup Email.
  7. For more popular web-based email accounts, check the section called 'Try to get email settings automatically from the Internet'. If you're using WM6.1, you won't be asked this question.
  8. For other providers, you'll also need to supply the incoming and outgoing server details
  9. When asked, Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is usually not required, and the option Server requires secure connection (SSL) is required. However these vary by email provider.
  10. If you're still not set up, check your spelling. Most errors are caused by typographical mistakes, missing dots or extra spaces. For more information on these, visit our Xda site for further help.

  1. You'll first need to confirm with your IT Manager whether your Exchange Server is configured for 'Direct Push', or whether you can use POP3/IMAP access.
  2. If you can't decide whether your business should use Microsoft Direct Push or POP3 we can advise you here.
  3. If Microsoft Direct Push has been configured, make sure your IT Manager sets up your phone with the required 'certificates' and VPN connection, so you can access your server securely. Then, to enable Direct Push go to Start>Programs>Comm Manager. Select the Direct Push button to enable or disable Direct Push.
  4. If you'd rather use POP3, make sure your Exchange server is configured for Outlook Web Access (OWA) and allows POP3/IMAP access.
  5. You'll then need to ask your Exchange Server Administrator to provide you with the Exchange Server Name (Outlook Web Access server name) and Domain Name.
  6. Now go to Start>Messaging>New Email Account and type in your email address.
  7. Clear the check box entitled 'Try to get email settings automatically from the Internet'.
  8. Select 'Exchange Server' from the list entitled 'Your email Provider' on the next screen.
  9. In Server Address, enter the Exchange Server name, and select Next. Enter your user name, password and domain and select Next. Then select 'Email', then 'Settings' and finally, 'Finish'.
  10. If you've synchronised emails with your PC before, open ActiveSync on your phone and go to Menu>Add Server Source to set up an Exchange Server connection. When you're prompted to select information types for synchronisation, you need to clear the Email check box under the Windows PC item before you can select Email under Exchange Server.
