Wireless LAN (WLAN) from O2 provides you with wireless broadband Internet access at selected public locations or hotspot across the UK and beyond.

 

This means that without any wires or dial up connection you can:

  • Send and Receive email
  • Browse the Internet or your company intranet at broadband speeds; connecting quickly and easily.
  • Access your company systems and LAN* (via your existing VPN)

 


Wireless LAN is quick and easy to set up and allows you to be more productive without having to visit the office to synchronise email or download large documents.

As most laptops already have the WLAN capability built in, you can usually use your existing IT infrastructure and equipment eliminating the need for further investment.


How do I sign up?

We've made using our WLAN service really simple and easy. Our free of charge O2Connection Manager™ software does all the hard work for you so all you have to do is:

 

Check you have the right equipment (listed below) and that your kit is WLAN capable.

  • A WLAN enabled laptop or WLAN data card
  • Microsoft Windows 98 (limited), 98SE, NT4 (limited), 2000 and XP
  • Full administrator rights are required to install
  • Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or higher
  • Free Hard Disk space 100mb
  • Memory 32mb
  • CPU 233mhz
  • Resolution 800x600
  • Colours 256

 

Contact your O2 Service Provider to activate WLAN (you will find their number on your bill). You will need to register each mobile user on the account. Remember that we have a great offer at the moment, you can get the 1st two months subscription completely FREE OF CHARGE

 

You will need to Install the O2 Connection Manager™ software.

 

Go to an O2 hotspot location and use the service. To see where these hotspot are use ourhotspot directory.

 

Alternatively, we do offer 60 minutes access at The Cloud hotspot sites for £6. To purchase, send a text message to 84442 containing the words: Cloud 60. You will then receive a series of text message with your username and password.

Once you have these details, you need to login to The Cloud website at the venue you are at (full instructions below)



How do I use the service?

Unlimited Access:

  • Install Connection Manager™
  • Switch on all WLAN capabilities (refer to your laptop user guide if you need to)
  • Open O2 Connection Manager™ and the system will scan to find the WLAN network
  • Press 'Connect'
  • You will then receive an inbound call from O2 on your mobile phone confirming that you are about to enter Wireless LAN services.
  • Press 1 to accept and then end the call
  • You are now connected.

Premium SMS service:

  • Switch on all WLAN capabilities (refer to your laptop user guide if you need to)
  • Using your wireless network connection settings, view the available networks and the system will scan to find the WLAN network
  • Connect to "mycloud"
  • You will also need to check the box "allow me to connect to the selected network
  • Open your Internet Browser, The Cloud landing page should appear
    Click Connect
    Click on the O2 logo
    O2 Web access screen appears, click login and enter the username and password from the texts you received.
  • Or if you are using the O2 connection manager and do not have an O2 WLAN account, select the O2 WLAN network and press connect. The automatic authentication will fail and you will be asked if you wish to manually log in, answer yes. You will be then taken to the Manual log on page, all you need do then is enter your user name and password in the Premium SMS boxes to get connected.


Where can I use the service?

Check out the coverage with ourhotspot directory . Please note that the number of hotspots is always changing as we review and enhance our coverage all the time. The Connection Manager™ software will keep you up to date with its integrated hotspot directory.

 

Please be aware that the WLAN premium SMS service only works at sites operated by our partner, The Cloud.



How much does it cost?

Unlimited Access:
We offer an unlimited access package for Wireless LAN (WLAN) called WLAN Max is available to all business customers on O2 200 or above for a monthly subscription of £30 (+ VAT).

 

Even better, the service is currently FREE OF CHARGE for the 1st two months if you sign up to WLAN now

Premium SMS service:
60 Minutes Access - £6 paid by Premium SMS

You can now get Wireless LAN access for 60 minutes when you pay by Premium SMS.

The service costs £6 and will be charged to your next mobile phone bill. To purchase, send a text message to 84442 containing the words: Cloud 60. You will then receive a series of text message with your username and password.

Once you have these details, you need to login to The Cloud website at the venue you are at (full instructions above under How does I use the service?)
