Instead of seeing the message on your mobile phone, you’ll receive a text giving you an O2 web address. Here you can see the Media Message that you’ve been sent.

To send a Media Message you’ll need a compatible mobile phone.

If you’d like to purchase a Media Messaging mobile phone, you can either go into an O2 store, visit our online shop at www.o2.co.uk or alternatively, click on the "Telephone Us" link below for details of our customer service contact numbers.

At the moment you can’t send a Media Message bigger than 300KB. To find out the size of a Media Message, check the message details on your mobile phone.

If the message is bigger than 300KB, change the settings on your camera and try taking the image again.

Check your User guide for more information on how to do this.

A normal text message is limited to 160 characters but if this isn’t enough you can use Media Messaging to send a text message up to 1000 characters long. Just open a new Media Message and start typing.

You’ll be charged at the Media Messaging rate for your tariff.

O2 Tariffs

You can send a Media Message back to the UK as long as you have no international bars on your mobile phone and you’re in a country that we have a roaming agreement with.

To find out which countries we have roaming agreements with, please click on the "Making Calls while Abroad" link below.

To send your Media Message, do so as you normally would, making sure you enter the international dialling code, +44, and remove the first 0 from the number you’re sending it to.

For example, to send a Media Message to 07732020202 you would type +447732020202.

Sending a media messaging while roaming will cost you exactly the same as when sending from the UK, and will vary according to your tariff. Please see question 3 to find out more about Media Messaging charges.

Making calls while abroad

You can send a media message to a number of non-UK destinations, as long as you have no international bars on your mobile phone. The link below provides the list of countries and operators that you can now send media messages to and receive from.

As part of our ongoing goal to provide you with services you value, we will keep increasing the number of countries and networks that you can send picture messages to and receive from, so keep checking this list for updates.

Countries list

First of all, please make sure that your phone is set up to use MMS and you don't have any international bars on it. See question 2 for more information on setting up your phone to use MMS. Secondly, check that you've put in the number you want to send to in the correct format, including the international dialing code, with a + or 00 in front. To give you an example, both +30 6999999 and 0030 6999999 (where the first part is the country code and the second part is the mobile phone number) would be acceptable by our systems. If you're certain that you have formulated the message correctly, please check our list of supported destinations by clicking the link below.

Countries list

We don't charge extra for sending media messages to foreign destinations or receiving from foreign destinations. So, it will cost you exactly the same it costs to send to the UK and will vary according to your tariff. Please see question 3 to find out more about Media Messaging charges.
