FAQs

A text alert is a text that we send you containing information like jokes, horoscopes, news or football results. The texts are limited to 160 characters, but can be received by all mobile phones.

You can subscribe to a range of alerts or just choose a one-off single alert when you want it.

Text alerts are charged at varying rates. See the cost per alert details when you choose to subscribe.

A media alert is a picture message we send you that can contain text, pictures and even sound, depending on the alert you choose.

The text can be longer than that in a text alert (up to 1000 characters), and the alert can contain up to four pictures.

Media alerts are charged at varying rates. See the cost per alert details when you choose to subscribe.

If you have a picture messaging mobile phone and the right settings, then you should be able to receive most media alerts.

With lots of topics to choose from, some media alerts contain up to four pictures, up to 1000 characters of text, and even sound clips.

Some of the alerts require you to have a certain mobile phone type (e.g. to receive sound files within the alert), but where this is the case, details are provided in the relevant alert description.

If you have a picture messaging mobile phone but you are not sure if it is set up for picture messaging or want to buy a new camera phone, then check out the "My mobile settings" link below for more details.

O2 offers a wide range of alerts on different topics, so there is bound to be an alert for you.

The costs of the alerts vary, ranging from free to 75p per alert. Details of the prices are available when browsing the different alerts available in a particular category.

The frequency of the alerts also vary, and can be as often as one-a-day, or as spread out as one-a-week for the alerts subscriptions. You can also request a single alert at a time without a subscription, e.g. if you want to know what the day’s weather will be like, see the "Text alert" link below for more details.
