What happens on the day of your number transfer

Following your completion of the activation process, O2 will text you to notify you of the date when your existing number will transfer to your iPhone.

On the day of your port or migration taking place a number of things will occur.

Firstly your existing number will be disconnected. You may only notice this when you try to make a call from your existing number or if you switch your phone on and off. An error message may also be displayed on your existing phone, don't worry, this is normal.

Secondly your temporary number (iPhone) will be disconnected, again you may only notice this when you try to make a call or switch the phone off and back on again. If you do this you may see an error message on the screen, again this is normal. Please remember that if you have been using the visual voicemail function on the iPhone with your temporary number you will lose any stored messages during the number transfer process so you may want to ensure you pick up any voicemails before the day of the transfer.

Finally your existing number will be re-activated in your iPhone a short time later. You may need to switch your iPhone off and back on again to ensure the changes are fully updated and any error messages are removed. A simple way to check the number change has gone through successfully is to make a test call to your existing number and if the call is received on your iPhone then the transfer is complete.

Please remember that you do not need to change the SIM in your iPhone at any point in the process - your existing number will be activated on the sim that came with your iPhone.
