O2 became part of the Telefónica family in March 2006, and since then we've been developing our capabilities to bring together an offering that will deliver real value to MNC customers across many countries. Where we do not have a direct presence, we have strong partnerships that allow us to compete on a global scale.

Together, O2 and Telefónica have a distinctive approach to working with multinational corporations (MNCs). Insights about the business communications challenges they face are at the heart of how we work together. We take a customer-centric view, analysing businesses before we make any recommendations about possible solutions. It's how we create value for them.

Multinationals are facing many difficult challenges and choices. Which is why we always set realistic goals - working within the practical limits of resource, location and market. Three of the most pressing issues that our customers have to deal with are:

  • Vendor/supplier management: Managing global contracts for mobile, fixed and integrated communications - and taking a flexible approach to what you subcontract.
  • Total cost of ownership: How do you fix costs over the length of the contract? How can pricing models based on individuals' usage be applied to your mobile communications?
  • Managing mobility: Your increasingly mobile workforce creates challenges in managing data, equipment, and applications.

In the last year, some of O2 and Telefónica's largest MNC customers have been telling us that they want to consolidate the telecoms services that they buy. In September, 2008 Telefónica had more than 252m customers globally. Part of Telefónica's leadership stems from the amount it invests in research and development - ? 4.4bn in 2007, an increase of 51% on the previous two years, and the equivalent of 8% of the group's total revenues.

That investment has helped to fund a world-beating communications network that multinational corporations can benefit from, including:

  • An internet protocol (IP) multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) backbone, connecting 11 national Telefónica IP networks
  • MPLS interconnections with 15 regional and local providers covering 90 countries
  • More than 467 roaming agreements reaching more than 226 destinations
  • A global network that continues to grow depending on our customer needs providing new points of presence (POPs) in Europe, Africa and China, connecting our international networks to local ones.

Our portfolio

Mobilising the MNC: Our solutions include mobile email, business applications and professional services - taking the pain and complexity away for you.

Global virtual private network solutions: Internet protocol (IP) multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) is our flexible international connectivity service, which can provide virtual private networks cost effectively. Our range of access solutions (e.g., leased line, digital subscriber line, Ethernet) works through MPLS interconnections to domestic networks or direct access to our international points of presence.

Local networks and desktop management: We'll make sure any solution we deliver will be fully integrated, so your IT and enterprise staff will able to access what they need to, no matter where they are, what terminal they're using or the type of access they have.

Managed data centres: We can manage applications using Telefónica's communication network, making use of ten data centres in eight countries, supported 24/7. Examples of services include business continuity and disaster recovery systems and secure email solutions.

Managed telephony solutions: Covering IP telephony, and traditional and hosted private branch exchange services, which we can design, implement, manage and maintain for you.

Internet access and security solutions: Our security solutions will protect your assets and business activity. Key services include secure internet access and desktop solutions, and identity management.

Convergent solutions: We offer functions independent of location via unified networks such as the internet, integrated with business applications. Our aim is to provide a personal communication environment that guarantees mobility - and a predictable cost.

Telepresence: Allowing key individuals and teams to communicate via high quality video conferencing, using life-size, high definition pictures and high quality audio streams. We'll provide equipment and room facilities and the network connectivity required.
