Novatel U530 & U630 Firmware Download Guide

This is the latest version of software has been specifically developed to optimise the performance with an O2 SIM and is recommended users upgrade to it to provide optimum experience.

Follow the below instructions to install or upgrade the firmware software on the datacard:

The version of firmware on the card can be determined via the Mobilink software:

• The datacard should be inserted in the laptop and the Mobilink software should be selected.
• Menu should be selected and then Properties. The firmware version will be seen.

For the U630 card the latest firmware is version: 20

For the U530 card the latest firmware is version: 43

If the firmware version is not the relevant version above then it should be upgraded as follows:

The firmware upgrade utility should only be used after the SIM has been removed from the card. The card should not be removed from the laptop until the upgrade process is complete - if the card is removed it will be damaged.

1. Do not use the laptop for any other purpose whilst upgrading the card.
2. Close down any applications such as the e-mail client and the browser.
3. Ideally, disconnect the laptop from the LAN environment. 
4. Close down the Mobilink software but leave the card inserted in the laptop.
5. Download the relevant firmware applicable for the card to the hard drive of the laptop. Do not use this utility from a memory card. Only download the relevant firmware for the relevant card.
   1. U530 firmware download will be a file named: NVTL_UMTS_FUU_dmeu_43.0.exe
   2. U630 firmware download will be a file named: NVTL_FUU_630_20.0.exe.
6. Select the firmware upgrade utility from it’s stored location.
   1. Select Next.
   2. Select I Agree.
   3. Select Next.
   4. DO NOT REMOVE THE CARD FROM THE LAPTOP UNTIL THE UPGRADE PROCESS IS COMPLETE. IF THE CARD IS REMOVED THE CARD WILL BE DAMAGED.
   5. When the message, “Firmware Upgrade Complete: Congratulations, you have successfully upgraded your modem. Please re-insert your modem to complete your upgrade” select Finish.
   6. With the card inserted in the laptop start the Mobilink software.
   7. Select Menu and then Properties (e.g. is on the left hand side of the Graphical User Interface (GUI)). The firmware version will be seen – it should now be the latest version of firmware.
