Who are lone workers and what jobs do they do?
The Health & Safety Executive defines Lone workers are those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision. They are found in a wide range of situations; for example:
Mobile workers, working away from a fixed base- social care workers, sales teams, technical field staff, delivery personnel, health care workers, environmental inspectors or field engineers
People working separately or outside normal hours- security staff, bus drivers, prison officers, maintenance and repair staff, paramedics or cleaners.
People working alone from a fixed location- such as a shop, construction site, petrol station or kiosk.

Health & Safety Legislation
The Health and Safety Offence Act 2008, introduced in March 2009, raises the maximum penalties available to the courts in respect of certain health and safety offences. This, combined with The Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007, places even greater emphasis on organisations and management to ensure their employees are safe.
