Mobility & Dexterity

Many people find mobile phones fiddly to use and we would like to try to make it as straightforward as possible for you to use your mobile phone. Some of the following features will help customers with limited dexterity or mobility:

1. Phones that have large buttons and are easy to grip will be easier for you to use.
2. Voice-activated dialling allows you to dial from your phone without using the keypad. Simply set up the phone to recognise your voice and you can dial your favourite number by speaking the name or number.
3. Speed dialling or one-touch dialling is available on most handsets.  Once you have set it up, you can have up to 30 quick-dial numbers, which means you can dial your favourite numbers at the touch of a button rather than having to access the phone book. 
4. Pre-set text messages are also available on most mobile phones, allowing you to create standard text messages like ‘Can you come and pick me up?’ so it takes fewer keystrokes to send a text.
5. Predictive text messaging can also reduce the number of keystrokes to send a text message.  This feature will predict what words you are typing, based on what you’ve typed before, or what the most common words are.  This can overcome the problems of using a keypad instead of a qwerty keyboard.
6. Wireless hands-free kits or Bluetooth headsets avoid the need for wires. Some phones have a small button on the earpiece so you can answer the phone without even touching it, as long as it is nearby.  You can also use a hands-free loudspeaker so that you don’t have to hold the phone while you’re having a conversation.
